Osun Big Boy, TJ In Drug Scandal.
These are definitely not the best of times for one of Osun State’s prominent businessmen, Alhaji Tajudeen Abioye, as he is currently explaining to the Dutch authorities how he came about the 300 kg of substances suspected to be cocaine which was found in his possession. Abioye who was born in 1970 is better known as TJ in Osogbo and environs and his fame spreads all over Osun and Kwara State where he runs a chain of businesses. Saying that Abioye is one of the moneybags in the Osun-Kwara axis is like stating the already obvious. He is the CEO of many companies including TJ Flour Mill, TJ Hotels, Osogbo and another one situated between Kwara and Osun States. It was gathered that TJ is also a big time farmer and the expanse of his farm is said to be at par with the biggest farmers in Osun State. Just last year, he built a fully automated cassava flour mill in his hometown, Ijabe. That alone has endeared him to all the cassava farmers in the community as he is a major buyer of their product. The four Dutch nationals working on his farm tells a lot about his status as an international businessman. His other businesses include a quarry, a chemical plant and a gas station. He also acquired the moribund Kwara Paper Converters, Erin Ile which he now runs as TJ Printing Press. His well diversified business ventures includes bore hole drilling, his company Hydrobabs is one of the front runners in Osun and Kwara States. Street Journal’s investigation also revealed that the businessman recently celebrated the commissioning of his 100th house. Incidentally, TJ who obtained a degree in Business Management from New Delhi, India is not just all about business, his impact as a philanthropist is being felt in his home community and many other places. The street lights in his community were said to have been provided by him while a good number of indigent students are being educated even up to university level on his bill. And not too long ago, he promised to build two fuel stations for the permanent site of the Federal Polytechnic, Offa’s permanent site. Investigations conducted by Street Journal revealed that TJ’s problems started when he imported bananas into Poland from a South American country. The bananas which were allegedly loaded with cocaine were thereafter taken to Holland in a truck. In Holland, it was learnt that Alhaji Abioye tried to bargain with one Victor, also a Nigerian. The arrangement was that the consignment would be offloaded into Mr. Victor’s warehouse pending its onward shipment. An agreement could however not be reached as the price being offered was considered too low by Victor. Street Journal gathered that TJ eventually took the truck to a residential building where it was offloaded. That, according to sources in Amsterdam was his undoing. The sight of a banana laden truck being offloaded in a residential area attracted attention” and it was eventually discovered that the truck carried more than bananas.
