On June 23, 2011, the Second Circuit will be in session to entertain a motion sponsored by the Federal Bar Association, and co-sponsored by the Network of Bar Leaders, New York City Bar Association, New York County Lawyers’ Association, the New York State Bar Association and the Connecticut Bar Association to admit new members. A reception will follow in Room 850.

Pursuant to Local Rule 46.1 and the requirements set forth in the Attorney Admissions Application Form (available at www.ca2.uscourts.gov ), any attorney duly admitted to the practice of law and in good standing is eligible for admission to the bar of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit upon paying the filing fee of $190, reading Federal Rules of Appellate Procedure, the local rules of the Second Circuit, and completing the application. No prior admission to a federal district court is necessary.

The admission application is quick and simple. Space is limited, so applicants are urged to apply promptly to participate in this historic event.

Join our discussion to learn about current developments in decisions of the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. This session will go over a variety of TTAB decisions covering commonly encountered issues such as: likelihood of confusion, identification of goods, descriptiveness, genericness and functionality. Our speaker, Ted Davis, is a sought-after authority on trademark law and has extensive experience in trademark and unfair competition law and was recognized as a 2010 Georgia “Super Lawyer” for Intellectual Property and Intellectual Property Litigation by SuperLawyers magazine. He is a regular lecturer at the International Trademark Association’s annual meeting, which he has represented in several amicus filings before the United States Supreme Court.

Attorneys that are unemployed are eligible for a full scholarship. Attorneys with an annual income up to $35,000 are eligible for a tuition discount of 75%, attorneys with an annual income of $35,000 to $50,000 are eligible for a tuition discount of 50%. Attorneys with an annual income above $50,000 are not entitled to a discount.

On March 1, 2010 Amy Gell, my fellow Vice President for the Second Circuit of the Federal Bar Association, and I organized a ceremony for the swearing-in of new officers of the Federal Bar Association's SDNY Chapter. The Hon.
